Credit Union Case Study
Louisiana Federal Credit Union (Louisiana FCU) is a financial institution with 5 branches, headquartered in LaPlace, LA, serving over 26,000 members with more than $183 million in assets. Louisiana FCU was chartered in 1935 for employees of Norco Shell Oil Refinery and now serves members throughout the community.
Although the south is a beautiful place to visit and live, it also experiences more natural disasters each year than any other region in the United States. Having experienced hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and Isaac, among others, the credit union had concerns about being able to deliver services to their members each time a storm moved into the gulf. Additionally, they felt their efforts were better spent focusing on their membership than maintaining complex hardware, software and ancillary systems.
IMS has served Louisiana FCU for many years providing consulting, backup and disaster recovery services. In fact, in 2012, IMS recovered Louisiana FCU during hurricane Isaac. In the aftermath of the hurricane, Louisiana FCU was the first financial institution operational, providing full financial services to the entire community.
The credit union was considering a change to their core system and was fully aware they are located in the “red zone” for natural disasters, having been through so many throughout the years.
Having developed a close business relationship over the years, it seemed a natural fit when IMS approached Louisiana FCU about hosting the Episys core system for them at their Oregon data centers. The fact that the northwest is the safest region in the United States for natural disasters was equally appealing.
IMS setup and configured the hardware at their primary and secondary data centers along with redundant communications to ensure business continuity. They then worked with their business partner, Symitar to convert the credit union over to Episys. The credit union made the move in late 2013 and has not looked back!
What the Client is Saying
“We have peace of mind, especially during hurricane season, knowing that our services will be available to our members in their time of need. Having IMS handle our data operations affords us the ability to focus more on our members and our staff. We’re in the business of member service. We appreciate knowing that the complex logistics are taken care of so we can get back to what really matters.”
